Judge site Gallows Forest

Weiz

Until 1848, Thannhausen Castle was the seat of district authority and a regional court. Near Thannhausen Castle in the direction of Ponigl, in the Raaswald, the Galgenberg is located in the first section at the height of Raas, where the remains of an execution site (gallows tower) are located. This site used to be the place of execution for the Thannhausen jurisdiction.

Thannhausen Castle had been the seat of the regional court since the 17th century, which was the court that was responsible for serious criminal cases. This place of execution with the gallows anchored in the ground was a visible symbol of jurisdiction.

The so-called “Köpfangerlkreuz” is located at a wayside shrine north of Thannhausen Castle.

Thannhausen's execution site is said to have been at this point. A little further in the desert forest, three squat stone pillars, gallows, tower up on a valley-narrowing hill. This is the second place of execution where the high court of the former Thannhausen Regional Court carried out the judgments.

The place of execution in the Einöd is one of the two still preserved and still legendary places of sad memory.
