Schneeschuh-RUndwanderung auf die Amundsenhöhe

If you would like to explore the wintry Hochschwab karst plateau on foot, take the path via Russenstraße up to Sonnschienhütte. The route runs along a forest road, and despite its total length of twelve kilometres, it is suitable for beginners with good stamina. At the top you can fuel up on culinary delights at Sonnschienhütte or even spend the night there.

Schneeschuhwanderung zum Waxrieglhaus

Hinteralm at Mürzer Oberland Nature Park is known as one of the region’s best areas for snowshoeing. The 16-kilometre route starts in the Upper Mürz Valley and takes you along forest roads and mountain trails up to the scenic high plateau at Hinteralm.

Our tip: Don’t forget to pack some snacks – the mountain huts are closed in winter!

Winter hiking in Mariazell

This picturesque route to Mariazeller Bürgeralpe starts at the pilgrimage site of Mariazell and follows the Sebastiani Rosenkranzweg trail. Continue towards Habentheuersattel and pass by wintry Lake Kristallsee until you reach Edelweißhütte mountain restaurant with its stunning panoramic conservatory.

Our tip: Try the Grammelknödel dumplings with sauerkraut or the semolina pudding with strawberry sauce at Edelweißhütte!
