Fertile soil for a fruitful collaboration

Winegrowers’ associations

Styria’s Thermen- & Vulkanland is characterised by its fertile soils. It isn’t just the culinary scene that benefits; it also results in a number of productive interest groups.

The Thermen- & Vulkanland has more winegrowers’ associations than anywhere else. There may be several reasons for this: the solidarity that exists among the winegrowers; their constant drive to improve the quality of their wine products; the daily camaraderie that is so characteristic of the region’s people. As everyone knows, it’s much easier to do things together, and it’s more fun too – and so the winegrowers’ associations in the Thermen- & Vulkanland set the trends for excellent flavour and quality far beyond our borders.

Believe it or not, there are eight winegrowers’ associations in our region. They all share a love of and a passion for wine. The groups get together to sample products, talk shop, organise training, or work on joint projects.

the WeinBlüten

The “Weinblüten – die Winzerinnen aus dem Vulkanland” (Vine Blossoms – Vulkanland Women Winegrowers) association celebrates women in wine. The association’s six female winegrowers not only press the wine “Rosi” together, they also host a number of very sophisticated wine festivals. The Vine Blossoms are also committed to social issues – so they launched the project “Cuvée Charité”, in which a considerable share of their profits from wine sales goes into projects tackling domestic violence.

EruptionsWinzer

The “Eruptionswinzer” (Eruption Winegrowers) harness the concentrated power of the Vulkanland. Nine winegrowers – nine strong characters – nine styles – one passion: wine. They put a great deal of passion into implementing their wine-related projects. Expect high-quality Riedenweine (single-vineyard wines), the Eruptionsfest and the Unplugged Festival with the Rauch siblings.

Grauburgunder Straden

The six Straden-based winegrowers focus on growing Grauburgunder. Straden’s deep Grauburgunder grows on humus-rich alluvial soil, and is as striking as the townscape of Straden with its three church towers silhouetted against the sky.

Klöcher Traminer - with the scent of rose

18 winegrowers from the municipality of Klöch represent a rose-scented wine – the Klöch Traminer. If you love Traminer, you certainly mustn’t miss the Klöcher Traminer in all its guises. One of the region’s best-kept secrets is the annual Traminer Open in spring, where you can taste your way through Traminer wines produced by all 18 wineries.

Sekt Anna

“Sekt Anna” consists of four winegrowers from St. Anna am Aigen. Made from the varieties Weißburgunder, Chardonnay and Grauburgunder (Ruländer), they produce an extra-rich, full-bodied sparkling wine which also bears the name “Sekt Anna”.

STK - Steirische Klassik- & Terroir wineries

The steirischen Terroir- und Klassikweingüter (STK for short) is a free association of twelve wineries that have dedicated themselves to region-specific wine culture. The businesses are scattered across the region, in the winegrowing areas of Vulkanland Steiermark and Südsteiermark.

TAU-Wine grower

“TAU” – twelve wineries from Tieschen form the TAU. In Tieschen, wine is inextricably linked with the name TAU, and TAU is inextricably linked with having strong roots in the region. The result is delicious Burgunder wines. So where best to enjoy TAU wines? Well, on the “TAU-Weg der Riede” (TAU Single Vineyard) hiking trail, of course, which runs right across the Tieschen winegrowing area.

winegrower Vulkanland Steiermark

Over 90 winegrowers from the “Vulkanland Steiermark” winegrowing region have teamed up to form the “Winzer Vulkanland Steiermark” association. Their shared aim is to carry their wines and their region out into the world, far beyond national borders.
